Leaving Recife (PE), Brazil, the route follows the coast, and as much as possible, we will cycle on the beach's sand until Belém. From there, we will take a 4 days boat through the Amazon River to Manaus, where we wil cycle toward the Transamazonean Highway (a highway intended to reduce the isolation and promote the economic development of the Amazon Basin, thesedays largely abandoned because of controversy over the environmental hazards following deforestation). It goes through Porto Velho (RO), before it meets the brand new Pacific Highway from Rio Branco (AC), through the peruvian amazon around Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios), where a fantastic transitional scenery goes up to 4800 m altitude before it goes down to magic Cusco, Peru. From Cusco, we will roll hills until Lima, the capital of Peru.Together, the Transamazon and the Pacific Highway become the Interoceanic Highway, linking the Atlantic in Brazil to the Pacific in Peru.
Beaches + Amazon + Andes. From the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Hi Doug. What a nice trip...Any kind of tip would be welcome. Would you change anything on our route? Can I post some of your photos here?

You can post pics from my trip. I wouldn't change the route I rode. It was extremely difficult but that was the plan. The route from Manaus onwards shouldn't be too bad. Paved the majority of the way.
Once you're in the Andes, even after climbing up past Marcapata from P. Maldonado there are lots of ups and downs, 1000's of ft each way, nearly a 1000 miles all the way to the desert on the coast. The descent into the Sacred Valley at Urcos before Cuzco is awesome.
