Korla to Turpan
Well, we arrived yesterday afternoon in the city of Turpan, pronounced Tu-Lu-Fan in the Turpan depression (80 meters roughly 240ft below sea level). Turpan is the lowest point in all of China, that being said we were treated to a 50km non stop downhill over a small mountain pass into the valley yesterday, what a nice lead in to a rest day... Rest day again! The days sometimes feel really long. Because of the long daily distances we have had the last week the time now seems to be flying by. The other night in Aksu, Miles treated us all to a nice dinner at a Chinese restaurant and ordered up many different dishes for us to try. In China it is very common to sit at a round ta... Well, we are definitely out of the mountains and into some flat terrain again, at least for now that is. Our rest day in Kashgar was well appreciated as always and gave us our first taste of a big Chinese city and a chance to explore yet another new country and culture. We are traveling in the province of Xinjiang which occupies a hug... Continue Reading

For the past six weeks I have been working in the Toronto office but my mind has been in South America, thinking about where we’ll be in one year on the inaugural expedition of the Vuelta Sudamericana. Each day I check the weather reports for each days destination and I am pleased to see that the winds have been favorable, the rain... Continue Reading

The border between China and Kyrgyzstan is high in the mountains and the two countries have chosen (for reasons unknown to me) to have 7 km of no man's land in between there two border posts. For myself and a newly arriving sectional rider, we had flown into Beijing and made the long journey westward all the way to Kashgar by plane and... Continue Reading

After a good rest day in Osh, with all the usual, hand washing clothes, reorganizing gear and of course, taking your bike into Shillington’s bike shop (bike and drive train must be clean or no service) and for better service bring a coffee, and of course checking out the local sights, we were all ready to get away from the flat roads an... Ashleigh Emerick
"For 4 months I spent every day seeing a part of the world that I had never seen, in a way that few people get to experience it. To visit a continent on a bike is so unique and exciting -- bringing you so close to the people, the land, and the wildlife. It's exceptional. I felt like the phsycial effort, which was tough, coupled with the comraderie of the Tour and the magic of land made for one of, if not, the most remarkable, memorable, life enhancing experiences I could have. Bravo, TDA!
Natalia Dziegielewska
"It was the best decision in my life! Africa is still the land of dreams! You start in Cairo and 12,000km later emerge as a changed person! The severity of every-day life makes you appreciate what is really important and how lucky we are
being brought up with everyting at our disposal - or are we?
Life is so simple! The bounty of nature, good health and sheer joy of
exploring, having a safe spot to rest, full belly and great friends around
is more then enough to put a smile on your face every day of the tour!
Loved it!!!"
